CLAIRE Documentary

CLAIRE (2021)

In memory of Jack and Paul – two beautiful boys who left us too early. I am incredibly honoured to produce a documentary dedicated to them; the Penistone community and Claire – their brave and inspirational mum. Reuniting with director Saul Tyler and welcoming Ben Reynolds as one of our producers, we hope to make a documentary that pays respect to Claire, her work and her boys.

Claire Throssell, mother, teacher and activist against domestic abuse is an ambassador for Women’s Aid; an organisation working to prevent avoidable child deaths and ensure children are put first in family courts. The event which changed Claire’s life and prompted her to take such strong action is the unimaginable tragedy of losing her two sons – Jack and Paul – who were killed in a fire set deliberately by her ex-husband […] Read more

Festival audience feedback

"From the very start of this film you are made aware that the topic will be domestic abuse. I was not prepared however, for the absolute tragedy that unfolded. I was taken completely by suprise and was left devastated. Performances were rightly filled with so much emotion and the message was important and clear. The festival would be doing a disservice to these people and this cause by not screening this short documentary. Hopefully this could go someway towards building awareness when this bill is taken back to parliament this year."

"Watching this has broken me, raw emotions, real people portraying an actual event in a heartfelt way. This has been filmed perfectly with the right sounds and pace and I feel this film should be awarded for it’s compassionate portrayal of this delicate event and Claire’s voice should go on to be heard."

"Well-told story of grief and resolve in the aftermath of an unspeakable tragedy. Outstanding Cinematography."

“Powerful and emotive, very personal - doesn't over dramatise the traumatic subject”

“An interesting and insightful film that focuses on toxic relationships and how that can lead to tragedy, and ultimately how it has brought people together to support change. The documentary stirs a mixture of emotions and I wholeheartedly support the message of this film, and I can't see how anyone wouldn't.”
